Children and youth are welcome at St. Luke's-San Lucas! In fact they are treasured as one of the foundations of our life together as a congregation. The little ones attend Sunday School both at 10 a.m, and 12 noon, and we encourage their presence and participation in church events.
We are blessed to have a group of very dedicated and talented teenagers whose presence is felt in every area of our congregational life: their voices are heard in our Annual Meetings where they pose hard questions side by side with aduls, questions that have contributed to shape our life together. They volunteer at our Kitchen, Pantry, Thrift Store, fundraisers and church activities. Through their monthly meetings they plan their yearly activities which involve worship, service and fun! One of the most anticipated events for this year is their Summer pilgrimage to New York City.
The Monthly Bilingual Youth Service One of the most exciting parts of our Youth Ministry is the monthly bilingual youth service: held at 11 a.m., this service brings together our two dominant cultures and languages, Spanish and English, with the vitality of our youth who lead the service as choir members with their own band, lectors, intercessors, and most recently, as preachers! A distinct characteristic of this service is the music, which is almost entirely bilingual, and definitely with a youth beat!
The Bishop’s Summer Academic and Fun Enrichment Program (B-SAFE) Our commitmment to the younger generations is not limited to our members, but it also involves outreach to children and youth in our community. In addittion to hunger and clothing need relief (provided though our Soup Kitchen , Pantry and Thrift Store) we aim specifically at them through the Bishop's Summer Academic and Fun Enrichment Program.
St. Luke’s-San Lucas Church, Chelsea has hosted the B-SAFE Program since the Summer of 2008 with great success. It provides local children and youth with a safe place where they fill their summer days with a combination of sports, field trips, and opportunities to further their academic skills and their creative talents, and develop new friendships.
